The epiphany came for Marcel Davis midway through his freshman basketball season at American Fork.
It was prompted by a loss to Timpview, which was one of many that season, but one that stood out nonetheless. Davis was bullied that game. His lack of strength exposed. He was frustrated, and the manner of the loss prompted him to call his father, Rodney, on the bus ride back home.
He had just one question. “He wanted to know what it [was] he had to do to get better,” Rodney said. “He realized that there were things he needed to change if he was to be successful at the high school level.”
