Utah Pump-N-Run, 04-04-2010

The Utah Pump-N-Run 17U White Team had a successful run at the 2010 Las Vegas Easter Showcase by reaching the Championship game in their division before being defeated by the highly regarded, and fellow Adidas sponsored team, Las Vegas Prospects. Dallen Bird, from North Sanpete High School, McKay Murdock of Wasatch and Tanner LeBaron, Timpanogos HS (playing his first games since reconstructive thumb surgery); were all in double figures scoring.

To reach the title game, the Utah team downed Southeast Nevada All-In by a thrilling 74-70 margin behind a spectacular performance by Jake Skinner of Salem Hills, who poured in 36 points including a scintillating back door dunk. McKay Murdock added 25 points. In Quarter-Final bracket action, The UPNR 17 Whites soundly defeated the K9 Unit from AZ behind Ryan Van Pelt of Timpanogos' 17 points and 10 rebounds along with Bird's 14, Nate Ensign of American Fork's 13, Skinner's 13 and Chris Melville, Timpanogos' 10 points.

In pool play, UPNR 17U White Team was seeded 2 in a 3 way tie for 2nd having dropped their first game 57-53 to highly ranked Las Vegas Dynasty. In the second pool game The 17's White defeated the Cimarron Spartans 82-72 behind a balanced attack, and the three point shooting of Tanner LeBaron. In the third pool game, the Utah team lost a hotly contested game in OT to the So. NV Powerhouse 70-69, despite 17 points from Melville, 15 and 13 from Skinner and Ensign respectively.

Team Leaders for the Easter Tournament: Scoring Leaders were Jake Skinner (16.3 ppg), McKay Murdock (13.6), Chris Melville (10.4) and Dallen Bird (10.2). Assists: Murdock (6.4) and LeBaron (4.7); Steals: Skinner 4.4, Murdock 3.7; Rebounds: Van Pelt (7.4), Bird (7.3), Ensign (6.1); Three Pt shooting: Skinner, Murdock, LeBaron and Melville; Blocks: Bird and Van Pelt. Eli Robison and Josh Warner of Timpview were unable to make the trip. The team is coached by Jordan Brady. Next up for the Utah Pump-N-Run Teams is the National Double Pump Spring Tournament in Denver, Colorado April 16-18.
